I’ve just finished my exegesis of my-thesis-significant passages in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians tonight, (I’ll be joining you in 2 Cor soon Volker!) and it feels so good to have it behind me. It has ended up a little longer than I planned, which means I’ll be correspondingly changing my thesis outline. In fact, at over 30,000 words, I have enough material for all the presentations I plan to give this year, whether it be at the LST NT conference, or at the Tübingen postgrad seminar thingy. My exegesis of Paul’s discourse concerning idol food is alone 16 pages long.
Nevertheless, I’m pleased with most of what I’ve written, and that’s a nice feeling.

Congrats, Chris! Well, I finished 2 Cor. already last week and I have moved on to Rom. 8.
It seems you are almost half way word-wise with your thesis?
Did you engage with the question whether Paul thinks that demons lurk behind idols (there is a nice debate on this between Woyke [contra] and Gäckle [pro])?
Greetings,
Volker
Chris, I'd love to read your thoughts on chapters 12-14. Any chance of getting that segment emailed to me?
steve :)
I would be *very* interested in the idol food section, if you're willing to share.
Actually, I'd be interested in the whole thing once it's done, but the idol food section esp.
Hi Volker,
No, I didn't deal with the debate you mentioned, no need. Apart from the mention of the association between idols and demons in passing.
Great news that you're onto Rom 8! And yes, I am about half way with the word limit! Actually, I'm well beyond it, if I count my 1 Thess and Gal exegesis. But I probably won't anymore .... I hope to see you soon? Fancy coming round for a BBQ tomorrow?
Hi Steve
1 Cor 12-14 are the only chapters I didn't really engage with. I jumped from 11 to 15! Still, I'm honoured you would have wanted to read my thoughts, so thanks!
Hi Chris
I'll be in e-mail contact,
Thanks for being interested in my work!
Congrats Chris, that must be a good feeling!
Cheers, Steven. Yes it is! Be even better when I finish the last chapter ...
