Guess the author

Following are some great citations I recently found:

The Bible 'is not a sort of magical text, supernaturally giving us guaranteed information about everything under the sun. What we call its "inspiration" is its capacity to be the vehicle of the Holy Spirit, making Jesus vividly present to our minds and hearts, and so making his challenge and invitation immediate for us'.

'Life in the Holy Spirit is life where Jesus is alive in the company of others'

'When the Church is most clearly committed to the work of transforming of the earth, heaven becomes most clear'

'The Bible speaks rather seldom of life with God in heaven; it is more inclined to talk about renewal of creation, "a new heaven and a new earth"'.

As a clue, all of the above citations came from the same book.

(I know that the last one in particular sounds like Wright, but that would be too easy. Wright it ain't)

I was going to guess Wright (pbuh) but since you ruined that I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I suspect it's another Anglican. A very bushy eyebrowed, balding on top yet still keeping the beard Anglican. An archbishop perhaps. That's all I have to say... Think of those as extra clues... I'll leave it to another reader to figure that out :^D

Unless of course there is a prize to be won. If that's the case then give it to me! :^D

Man, it seems like these quotes could have come from a lot of people. But I'll go with Fee.

Rowin with Williams

I have no idea who wrote this, but the first quote links nicely with one from Augustine, which I recently came across:

"So let us listen to the Gospel as though Lord himself were present. And do not let us say: "How unfortunate were those who could see him!" For many of those who saw him also killed him, while many of us who have not seen him have also believed in him. The precious things that came from the mouth of the Lord were written down for us and kept for us and read aloud for us, and will be read by our children too, until the end of the world. The Lord is above, but the Lord of truth is here! The Lord's body in which he rose from the dead can be in one place only; but his truth is everywhere."

My favorite, however, is the third. It prods an ache in me which I'm still struggling to understand.

Either Richard Hays or John Webster. (It's certainly not Fee.)
