Back from England

... loaded with a copy of Ben Witherington III's The Living Word of God, Celebrating Common Prayer and Tim Gorringe's Salvation. My search for church history books in London was a spectacular failure, though only because I didn't manage to make it to the London School of Theology bookshop, Phil ;-)

I also returned to happily find a review copy of LeRon Shults' Christology and Science lying on my desk. I was present at LeRon's inspiring presentations on the book in Tübingen, and I am very much looking forward to reading the final result.

If I may indulge for a moment. I travelled to Sydney last week to hear BW3 and invited him to have a (real) coffee. To my surprise he said yes. We spent just over an hour chatting - nice guy!

Chris, when will you post a review of the book? He mentioned that he is working on a novel. Speaking of the London School of Theology - Derek Tidball was the other speaker. Good but not quite Witherington (surprisingly the people with whom I spoke actually came for Derek because they hadn't heard of BW3). Very pastoral and opened up Leviticus very well.

Now If only Tilling will have coffee with me ;-) Then my life will be complete!

Mark.

I enjoyed Leron's presentation here in Malaysia too ... it was less academically heavy but equally insightful. I had more fun in private conversations and playing theology trivia with him!

Hi Emergent, I'm not sure I will review BW's book, at least not formally. I may share random thoughts here and there.

As for the coffee, anytime! I make a seriously good brew ... get yourself over to Tübingen!

Hi Sivin, he is a brilliant guy for sure. I will review his book on the blog in the not too distant future.

Well Chris, what can I say? You come all the way to ol' Blighty, home of the brave and the strong yadda yadda yadda — and don't make it to LST! Maybe next time, and hopefully under happier circumstances.

I knew Derek was off globetrotting: hadn't realised he was down-under. Hey emergent - say hi to him from me, please, if you see him again :-)
