Winds of Worship 4

After being told that my ‘Hip hip’ song was not original (the person in question is obviously just jealous he won’t be getting any royalties), I tried my best to not only be more creative, but to scrape the bucket of my genius and write one to touch the very depths of theological profundity. With this introduction, I present, Winds of Worship 4.

God

God you are really God
Yippee,
good for you,
No, honest, you really are,
Yippee,
Woo hoo
Well done that you are God

Chorus:
Give us a ‘G’
Give us an ‘o’
Give us a ‘d’
GOD!
Hooray!

Next time, we have the pleasure of yet another guest writer. Roll over Wesley et al.

Hi Chris

At College we used to take up the challenge of setting some of the less obviously noble portions of Scripture to contemporary praise tunes. Here is one, to be set to the tune of "O Lord our God, How Majestic is Your Name" (We Will Magnify)

Remember Lord that you hate the Edomites
Because they really do not like us
They want to tear down Jerusalem
Right down to its very foundations

So we will take their kids
We will take their kids
and dash their heads against a rock
(Repeat)

So daughter Babylon we are coming after you
And we shall be so very happy
When we get the chance to devastate your walls
And pay you back once and for all

So we will take your kids... etc.

© Sean Winter, based on Psalm 137.7-9

What I like about it is that it scans and rhymes about as well as the original.

Imprecatory Praise! Someone ought to let Pat Robertson know.

Sean, that is absolutely hilarious. Oh I did laugh reading this treasure!

Boxcar, thanks for your visit!

Alan, please do tell Pat Robertson. You never know, perhaps I'll get a promotional slot on the 700 club.
Maybe not.

This one's great, Chris -- and it even rhymes ("woo hoo" / "you").

I love Sean's hymn too. Although if you wanted to make the chorus rhyme, Sean, you could go for something like this:

Their little brats, their little pains
Pick them up, bash out their brains!

Ben, you ought to think about writing more songs, what with your 'get it to rhyme' nack. Your change is beautiful, moving, makes me want to cry.

Thanks Ben, Chris for your too kind words. In my experience stuff like metre rhyme, poetry in fact usually interferes with the warm, fuzzy gooey feelings that such worship songs are meant to create.

Chris, your next challenge, should you choose to accept it is to write a worship song in German.

Hmmm. Challenge provisionally accepted (unless I don't have a decent idea)

This is all terribly very good. Here at our church we have a new "chorus of the month" each month. Do you have the music to these tunes? We might like to give them a try.

Hi Paul,
Tune?
Hmm. Bung any death metal tape on the speaker systems, then improvise.

And by all means use this in your church. For a small fee.

In fact, you give me the cash, I'll come and personally belly dance for you if you want ...
