I am simply curious to hear whether it gets your thumbs up, or down, and why you think as you do.
I will only add here that the tune seems rather out of phase with the lyrics at times. When the music goes all soft and extended, as if expecting a worshipful raised hand or such like, you are singing "Every one of us deserves to die"!
I tend to think this may be a line the death metal monk may better capture than the soft twiddles of a guitar and piano!
Video care of Scott Bailey's grin-inducing blog
His death scream at about 18 or 19 seconds in to the clip makes me chuckle every time I hear it. I may try to occasionally make the same sound if I run out of Marmite in Germany, get checkmated in a game of chess, hear bad teaching in a semon, get stuck behind a slow driver, or other such situation.

I actually dig the song. I first heard it on a Vineyard cd years ago and didn't realize it was Doerksen until you said do. My favorite part is the last line "This is Love".
I'll admit though the bridge is somewhat odd in the song. I remember when I was a youth pastor and my worship band would play this song I would think to myself, I wonder what the youth think when they are singing along with this song and they finally begin to reflect on the words they're singing. I could see them thinking "What the heck?! I deserve to die?! What kind of place is this?!!"
: )
I must confess I find Brian to be hit and miss. He's a wonderful person even if his wife won't let him buzz his head like mine! (Conversation over dinner we once had.) But I don't actually know this song. I do know that there was a challenge to the Vineyard pastors to return to the cross as a theme in our songwriting, Brian has about the best range of themes in his music. Let me tell you that you haven't lived until Brian has critiqued one of your songs - ouch!
I'll have to go digging through my CDs and see if I can find this one.
Get the monk for the CTRVHM music department. Now.

Grin inducing? I was hoping for awesome studly super blog of superior humor and theological intelligence.
Hi Bryan,
" I could see them thinking "What the heck?! I deserve to die?! What kind of place is this?!!""
Right! Hence I wonder if it encourages a church to be missional in its ecclesiology.
Frank,
If you like him then he immediately goes up in my opinion.
"Let me tell you that you haven't lived until Brian has critiqued one of your songs"
Perhaps he should have a look at my own offerings ...
Scott,
You big stud superior blogger man, I am working on a contract with the monk already. Fingers crossed.
"Every one of us deserves to die"!
I feel odd singing it, but is it doctrinally wrong?
well hopefully Jesus comes back before we die. I hope, soon, so I don't have to hear this song again ;-)
